MLD stands for Manual Lymph Drainage. The lymphatic system is a one-way system that drains substances that cannot be drained or reabsorbed by the blood system. MLD is recommended for stress and pain relief, detoxification, post-surgical, fibromyalgia, migraines, lymphedema amongst others. MLD is NOT a massage. A massage is to "knead" and it is deep whereas MLD is a superficial technique that is painless, stimulated or re-routed to eliminate excess fluid, cell fragments, fatty acids and proteins from the body.

The normal response after surgery is swelling and the earlier it is treated after surgery the better outcomes you will have. Every surgery has a different approach, but many can start MLD and post-operative care 24-48 hours after surgery. MLD after surgery can speed up the healing process by reducing swelling, fluid retention, bruising, aids in removing the cellular waste and debris from the traumatic area, reduces scar formation, and build-up of hard lumps known as fibrotic tissue.
